Iryna Hrymak’s Lvivshchyna Foundation initiated the transfer to educational institutions in the Lviv region of a methodological manual by Lviv philologist Feodosia Kolesnyk entitled Speak Ukrainian because you live on your own land.
On the eve of the new school year, on 31 August, the manual was presented to educators from Lviv schools and territorial community institutions. In total, more than 1,000 schools in the Lviv region will receive these books.
“Patriotism is not about words, but about actions. Ukrainian military, volunteers and millions of Ukrainians demonstrate this every day. Even children feel this spirit of patriotism – they raise money for the necessary things for the military, write fantastic poems and songs about the present, and are proud of their country. They need to be supported and inspired as much as possible. After all, in the near future, they will be the ones who will be working to build Ukraine,” said Iryna Hrymak, founder of the Lvivshchyna Foundation.
The manual contains 21 lessons, which describe in detail how a teacher can conduct an interesting lesson in the Ukrainian language and literature with a patriotic focus. The information in the book can also be used in extracurricular activities and events.
“Patriotism is now a challenge. We are rethinking this concept and therefore need to give children the right guidelines,” said Feodosia Kolesnyk, author of the manual.
Taras Zozulya, director of the Lvivshchyna Foundation, added that a meeting with teachers will be organised at the end of the school year. They will discuss all the suggestions for improving the textbook. After that, the Foundation will issue a second edition, which will be handed over to schools in Lviv region.
